About Us:

The Clifton Mansion was designated a municipal historical landmark by the City of Baltimore in 1975 and is about to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is reknowned as the summer estate of Johns Hopkins, though prior to his ownership it was the home of successful merchant Henry Thompson, Captain of the Flying Artillery, 3 rd Maryland Brigade in the War of 1812. The original family dining room has been restored. The main hall is home to Baltimore: Cradle of American Philanthropy, an exhibit of America 's earliest philanthropists. Considerable restoration is continuing, particularly in the eighty-five foot tower with a commanding view of the City.
