About Us
Since opening its doors in 1971, a visit to the nationally
renowned Fire Museum of Maryland continues to be an
exciting and valuable experience. Children and adults,
students and teachers can learn about fire safety and
fire prevention. If your interests run deeper, you'll want
to explore more than 40 antique fire engines dating from1806-1957, visit
a working fire alarm office, take an audio guide tour on the Great Baltimore
Fire of 1904 or stop by the Museum Strore. The children's Discovery Room provides
an opportunity to literally sit in the driver's seat of a 1938 fire engine as
well as put on turnout gear! The educational programs of the museum are dedicated
to teaching fire fighting history and fire safety. They have
been designed to enhance and to compliment classroom
learning objectives for public, private and parochial schools.
Students explore the history of fire fighting and discover how
fire fighting and communications technology has advanced throughout the
decades. Discussions, demonstrations, and
hands-on activities introduce students to fire safety knowledge.
