Rumor of Fact? A Town Under Loch Raven Reservoir

Ever drive over the Warren Road Bridge crossing the Loch Raven Reservoir and wonder if the large water expanse has always been there? Ever wonder what else could have been there? Find out at HSBC researcher Sally Riley’s illustrated presentation on Loch Raven Reservoir and the “lost” town of Warren. Due to the popularity of this talk, admission will be by advance ticketing only; location and ticket sales will be announced soon.

Join Baltimore historian and educator, Wayne R. Schaumburg for an illustrated program that looks at the role played by women in Baltimore’s history. The talk will focus on the period from 1776 – 1960, and will cover famous and not-so-famous who have contributed to Baltimore’s growth.

Family Second Sundays: Art With Purpose

How can creating art inspire change? Explore the possibilities during this free Second Sunday drop-in where we will get creative with our printmaking skills and ask ourselves “What are we passionate about?” This month we are teaming up with Baltimore Youth Arts with a screen printing station using imagery inspired by our Activism & Art exhbition.

Second Sundays at the MdHS is a FREE new opportunity for all ages to explore the museum through tours, scavenger hunts, art-making and more.

Admission is FREE at the Maryland Historical Society on Family Second Sundays!

Theme and activity change monthly. Drop-in between 1:00pm-4:00pm every 2nd Sunday of the month to explore!

Holiday Tea, Talk and Tour at the Carroll Museums

A formal tea will be followed by a talk about Baltimore during the period of Charles Carroll of Carrollton by Johns Hopkins, Director of Baltimore Heritage Inc. This will be followed by a guided tour of the mansion, which has been beautifully decorated by the ladies of the Mt. Washington Garden Club.

The Power of the Women’s Vote

The Maryland Women’s Heritage Center Presents a Discussion on: “The Power of the Woman’s Vote.”

#Me Too, unEqual Pay, Health Insurance, Freedom of Choice, Family Separation. All of these issues will be impacted by the upcoming elections; and they are all issues that affect women and families. This will be a non-partisan conversation to help effect positive change for women and girls.

Join us for a discussion with Alice Giles, past president of Howard County League of Women Voters; Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame Inductee, Dorothy Bailey; Joanne Dowdell, SVP of Global Government Affairs; and Abby Hendrix, Emerge Maryland, discussing the historic and current impact women’s voting power has on issues and the country.

Lantern Night

See the Museum in a whole new light as we light candle and kerosene lanterns on our antique fire rigs. Visit with re-enactors in period attire. It’s like stepping into the past as you explore the Museum by the light of the lanterns. A family friend event. Wear a costume and admission is half price!

Honoring our Heroes Motor Muster

Join us as we bring our mighty machines out from the Museum and into our parking lot for all to enjoy. City and County fire apparatus will also be on hand, along with privately-owned antique rigs. Thrill as water is shot high in the air! Enjoy the bells, sirens, and whistles and take a ride on an antique engine. Admission to the Muster and the Museum are FREE on September 8.
